Restart, Refresh, (NOT) Relax!

Poppies in Blue. acrylic on canvas, 30 x 40

Have you ever felt like you lost your direction? Your muse? Your creativity? Well, that happened to me at the start of the summer. Getting ready for my spring shows, I worked consistently and with purpose in the studio, day and night. Happily, I was able to produce a substantial selection of paintings from large to very small. I created stand-alone pieces as well as ones part of a series or triptychs.

So, what's the problem?

As the spring wound down, I just didn’t feel IT… you know that buzzy, heady feeling that you get when you are so focused and “in the zone” that you don’t notice the time passing or even meals. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I love making art and it always brings me joy which I hope translates into each piece. No, it was more of a lack of an overriding purpose and focus.

I realized then that I needed to reignite my creative juices. This month I took an outdoor sketching class and I signed up for a 2 day workshop in September with my favorite teacher (Hi, Katie!). Right now, I need to GET IN THE STUDIO!

How do you focus and get “the work” done? I’d love to hear about your best practices and see if that can work for me. Let me know.
